Editors Note

March 2011

Editor’s Note

Kathy SlaterDear Readers,

Welcome to spring! I always love this time of year, when the days are longer and the first daffodils are starting to show.

We have a great lineup of articles in this edition. Our Country Focus is on Bulgaria, where the people are striving to catch up with their European neighbours. It is always fascinating to see the different challenges faced by established companies due to their location, as noted in our look at Forever Living Products, one of the four companies we interview. Readers can compare the challenges Forever Living faces in Bulgaria to locations such as the UK, Ireland and Hungary, which we have featured in past editions.

Our Company Focus in this edition is Barefoot Books, which could serve as a role model for family values and family balance. It is so heartening to read about this company’s well-deserved success. Barefoot Books really does walk the talk, as the article illustrates.

We have also received great feedback on the new Chosen Charity section that we introduced in 2010. For this edition we highlight the efforts of Oriflame Turkey to ensure that poor children have access to basic education. You know, I often think that if DSAs in their own countries calculated the total amounts raised by their local direct selling companies and highlighted them to the media, it would do much to heighten the profile of an industry which remains misunderstood by many.

Also in this edition are details about the annual UK DSA Conference and Awards Dinner, which will be held May 12 2011 at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire England. (See http://www.conference.dsa.org.uk for more information.) Jerry Reagan, DSNE’s Business Development Manager based in the US, will be attending the event, and you can meet him on Stand number 12 in the Exhibition Hall. Later in the evening, Jerry and I will be hosting a special reception exclusively for our current and potential advertisers who want to know what opportunities the digital magazine format can bring them.

Many of you have contacted me to say how much you appreciate the simpler link for accessing our magazine that we introduced in our last edition. Well, we have another exciting development in store. We are presently awaiting approval from Apple for Direct Selling News Europe to be available as an app for your iPad. The US edition is currently available. Just log on to iTunes to download the link; it’s another way to stay up to date with what’s happening in the world of direct selling. We will let you know when Direct Selling News Europe is available.

Remember I really do enjoy hearing about what’s happening in your company, so keep on sending me your news and updates.

Until the next edition, happy reading and every success.

Warm regards,
Kathy
