£500,000 is the icing on the cake for Cancer Research UK’s Partnership with the Pampered Chef

CANCER Research UK received a cheque for a massive £550,481 on 11th February 2010 from direct selling kitchenware company The Pampered Chef UK.
The Pampered Chef has partnered with Cancer Research UK for the past three years, raising money for breast cancer research during ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ every October. Last year, The Pampered Chef raised an impressive £141,677 from their Consultants holding ‘Help Whip Cancer’ cooking shows and by making a donation of £1 per sale from a special range of ‘pink’ products.
But what made the real icing on the cake this year was the additional £408,804 raised by The Pampered Chef who passed on the revenue from last year’s VAT reduction to the charity. When VAT was cut to 15 per cent, the company donated the extra 2.5 per cent from all sales to the charity. With the donations from this year’s sales, that was a total of £550,481 this year alone. Russell Delew, Director of Major Giving and Appeals at Cancer Research UK, accepted the cheque at the Pampered Chef headquarters in Bracknell, Berkshire.
He said, “We’re delighted to be working with The Pampered Chef and can’t thank them enough for their support. The partnership has helped to save lives and fund valuable research into developing new treatments and better diagnosis for people with breast cancer. By passing on this massive VAT donation they are helping us to continue this important work.”
Cancer Research UK is the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK, spending £44 million on research into the disease last year alone.
Breast cancer remains the most common form of cancer in the UK, with one in nine women developing the disease at some point in their lives. Thanks to research, improved treatment and early detection, breast cancer deaths in the UK have fallen by almost a fi fth in the last ten years and today, more women than ever before are surviving breast cancer.
Vanessa Clayton, Director of Marketing and Communications of The Pampered Chef UK said, “It’s thanks to our Consultants’ dedication and hard work that we’re in a position to make such a large donation to Cancer Research UK. As a predominantly female business, this is a cause we feel particularly passionate about.”
In the three years of their partnership, The Pampered Chef has raised over £850,000 for Cancer Research UK.
